Where it all began

It all began as a small child 'helping' my Grandad on his allotment by digging up treasures and eating his Raspberries. Throughout my life I have loved the outdoors and in my early 20's I decided to start a landscaping business in the Bath and Avon area. One client decided they wanted to take me on full time and so my career in Estate Garden management began. I was fast-tracked to Head gardener and completed relevant RHS diplomas. I am eternally grateful for this introduction as my knowledge expanded exponentially and with it, my interest, curiosity and passion. It was wonderful to gain experience in all aspects of a garden throughout an entire year.

I looked after all the veg garden, wildflower meadow, lawns, roses, orchard, herbaceous borders and developed many practical skills.

After some wonderful years, I then applied for Assistant Head Gardener at a much larger, Private Estate in the Cotswolds. After a few years, I was promoted to Gardens Manager. I had many more opportunities here, gaining practical qualifications such as MEWP and Telehandler licences amongst others. IOSH Health and Safety, PRINCE 2 Agile Project Management, RHS L3 and many more.. They were a fantastic employer so I stayed for 10 years. I was responsible for over 40 acres of gardens and 10 gardeners, writing budgets, risk assessments, maintenance schedules and project managing other large projects on the side, organising many contractors. In this time, I learned an incredible amount about my trade and gained a lot of confidence. I look back on those days fondly with great admiration for my fellow gardeners who were a fantastic bunch.

Now it is time to go out on my own. We moved north and Chris Flynn Gardens was created. I am looking forward to seeing what the next chapter brings.
